Fallow deer originate in parts of Europe but now they can be found in many places around the world.

These deer are undoubtedly elegant. Their shiny, stylish coats of fur, majestic antlers, and big crystal eyes can always make them stand out in the wild.

And, Mother Nature never stop human from amazing at these beautiful creatures. We can even find menil, melanistic, and white deer. The photo above is an excellent example. A trio of fallow deer of different colors is captured together in a shoot. Fantastic!

If you are curious about the color of their coat, here is the explanation. It ranges from common to rare.

Common fallow deer – Their fur has white spots and a white patch outlined with black horseshoe-shaped border. In winter, their fur will fade to a general grey shade.

Menil fallow deer – Their coat is paler than common deer. This coat is featured by white spots year-round and a caramel horseshoe shape.

Melanistic fallow deer – The name can say it all. Their coat is black, almost entirely black or chocolate colored.

White fallow deer– Their fur is white to pale sandy-colored turning increasingly white with age.
